The widget board

Tables of widgets, and laying them out from the desktop window.

The widget board is what the phone shows when it isn't a monitor: tables of widgets on a black screen, sized to the phone. The PC keeps the layout and sends the phone finished data, so the board looks the same on every phone you pair.

Lay it out from the desktop

Open Phone layout in the desktop app. It previews the phone you picked in the sidebar.

  • Tables hold the widgets. Drag tables to reorder them (or Alt + ↑ and ↓).
  • Add a widget by clicking it in the gallery on the right, or by dragging it onto the phone.
  • Move a widget to another table by dragging it onto that table's row.
  • Pick a widget on the phone to change its settings in the editor above the gallery.

The default board is four tables: Calendar and CPU, Memory and an analog clock, Network, then a PC overview.

Built-in widgets

ShiftPane ships with a clock, an analog clock, a calendar, now playing, and PC stats (CPU, memory and network on their own, or together). The PC stats come from the native helper, which reads the OS's counters; the phone only ever gets the numbers.

More widgets

More widgets are in the gallery (Open the gallery on the app's Widgets page brings you there). Install in ShiftPane on a widget's page opens the desktop app, which shows what the widget can do before it installs it. Installed widgets appear on the Widgets page and in the same picker, after the built-in ones. See Making widgets to make your own.
