What ShiftPane and this site collect: video and widget data stay between your devices.
The app
ShiftPane works on your network. Your phone talks to your PC directly, over your Wi-Fi.
- What leaves your PC: video of the virtual monitor (or the monitor you chose to show), and finished widget data, to your paired phones only.
- What stays on your PC: everything else. Secrets you give widgets are stored encrypted on the PC and only go to the widget that declared them, and from there only to the hosts it declared.
- Paired phones: the PC keeps a fingerprint of each phone's key, not the key.
- No telemetry. The app doesn't report how you use it.
Installing and updating widgets downloads from the gallery's file server, and the app checks the revocation list every six hours. Neither sends anything about you beyond the request itself.
When you install a widget from the marketplace for the first time, the app tells the gallery that widget's id, and nothing else, so its page can say how many people installed it. The gallery keeps only the count; the address the report came from is kept for an hour so one install isn't counted twice. Apart from that, the app talks to the gallery's API only when you share a widget from it.
This site
The site has no analytics and no ads, and loads nothing from other sites.
Signing in uses GitHub. We keep your GitHub login, name and avatar to show you as an author, and a session cookie to keep you signed in; the CLI and the app keep a token instead, which signing out ends. Widgets you upload are public once approved, along with their source.
